I introduced a new structure for listing the albums and 12inches. You can now better view per period which albums an artist has recorded. Period 1980-1989 is the default, because these years are Black Music DB speciality. If you want see the albums/12inches of an other period you can click the appropriate years. The default album sorting order is by year (descending).

I just came back from my yearly holiday and read very sad news that my all time hero George Duke has passed away at age 67. Duke reportedly had been battling Lukemia. This is a great loss for all the fans out there. May George Duke rest in peace.

 | Soul and funk artist Isaac Hayes – best known for his pioneering sound in the 1970s – passed away at the age 65 in Memphis. Hayes – who was to turn 66 on August 20 – is the father of 12 children and the grandfather to 14. He has had four wives. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and his new album was scheduled to be released on September 16. Hayes' "Theme From Shaft" won both Academy and Grammy awards. Robert Wilson, a member of R&B/funk group the Gap Band, died at the age of 53 on Sunday (Aug. 15). Wilson, known as the "Godfather of Bass Guitar," suffered a heart attack in his Palmdale, Ca. home.
Wilson formed the Gap Band with brothers Charlie and Ronnie in the early 1970s, and the Tulsa group expanded upon the funk sound of George Clinton and Earth, Wind & Fire. The band's hits include "You Dropped a Bomb On Me," "Party Train" and "Early in the Morning." "My brother Robert was a bad boy on the bass," Charlie Wilson said of his brother in a statement. "We shared a bond as brothers, musicians and friends. I loved him and losing him is difficult for both Ronnie and I. The music world has lost a very talented man." Wilson, who was scheduled to perform at Tulsa's Timeless Music Festival on Aug. 28, is survived by his wife Brenda and two daughters, Robin and Latina Wilson. Source Billboard.com |
