| Marvin Isley, youngest member of the soulful Isley Brothers R&B group, has died from complications with diabetes, hospital officials said Monday. He was 56. Isley passed away Sunday morning at the Seasons Hospice within Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, according to representatives at both facilities. The original group formed in 1954 with the three eldest brothers Isley -- O'Kelly Jr., Rudolph and Ronald -- which recorded several singles, including "Shout," "This Old Heart of Mine" and the Grammy-winning "It's Your Thing." Marvin Isley joined in 1973, when the group expanded to six performers. The full group enjoyed massive radio airplay with lists of hits, including "That Lady," "The Heat is On," "Go For Your Guns" and "Fight the Power." The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Marvin retired from performing five years later, and eventually diabetes led him to have both legs amputated. The Ultimate Black Music Database is now online for one year. I started
this database with 1100 artists, 2500 albums, and 7000 tracks. This
amount is more than doubled. The amount of covers, samples is also
increased and the updates will be still on regular basis. I just
recently introduced the members/appear on list.
It was a year with ups and downs. The downs with the deadth of our favorit artists, Ernesto McKenzie Phillips (starpoint), John Whitehead, Ray Charles, Syreeta, Rick James, Tyrone Davis, and Rennee Diggs.
The ups with the new albums of 70s/80s artists like The O' Jays, {safm}Brenda Russell{/safm}, Teena Marie, Michael Cooper, Stephanie Mills, Anita Baker, Will Downing, Al green. And a Soul & Funk music stream for this site.
For me it is exactly the right moment to change the layout for this site. From now on it will be called The Ultimate Soul And Funk Music Database. Many Thanx to Remco for spending hours behind his favorit PS app. The URL is also changed to https://www.soulandfunkmusic.com. The old URL will be still available.

Don Cornelius the founder and presenter of the legendary music show the Soul Train has died. The Soul Train was aired from 1971 - 1993 thus hundreds of artists were featured. Some tunes from the show did get very famous like MFSB - The Sound Of Philadelphia, O' Jays's Love Train. Artists like Jodey Watley and Howard Hewitt of Shalamar started their career via the Soul Train. Don Cornelius was 75 years old. May he rest in Peace.

He has reinterpreted classic tunes in his own, silky-smooth style, from Aretha Franklin's "Till You Come Back To Me," to the Curtis Mayfield standard, "People Get Ready," to Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Also included are his first chart hit from the album, "Yes, I'm Ready," and the much-covered "Hey Girl." Overall, this compilation stands very well alongside the recent releases from Michael McDonald and Hall & Oates, and should be welcomed into the collection of any classic R&B fan. |
| Eugene Record of The Chi-Lites died on 22th of July. Eugene, a member of the Chi-Lites, was responisble for a lot of Chi-Lites hits like 'Oh Girl', 'Have You Seen Her'. Eugene Record also recorded two solo albums in the late seventies. The number 'Fan the Fire' is one of my favorites. After his solo career he returned to the Chi-Lites for recording more albums. Eugene died from cancer. He was 64. |
