Nu Vintage Soul Connection Soulchoonz records presents the Nu Vintage Soul Connection CD Volume 1. A twelve track CD with the Best Nu Soul and R'n'B grooves starring new artists

like Kimia Collins, Lisa Bell, Kayte Burgess, Lorraine Reid, Wade O'Brown, Michelle Tavares, Alana Bridgewater, Kate Bowen and Ian Martin. Almost all of them are from Toronto Canada. Few of them have already recorded an album or are currently working completing their album.

A good start off this compilation CD is the midtempo tune by Kimia Collins. 'Your Only' is a happy song with very nice synths, beat and splendid vocals by Kimia which I like from the first note.

The same for the next track. The beat of Lisa Bells 'Tell me Why' has some Mtume Juicy Fruits influences with that familiar low, mid tom melody. The break is very funky with a real 80s synth sound, again like Mtume. Lisa does her job great. Great vocals too, especially when she sings the rough parts.

Kayte Burgess her 'Now You Know' sounds pretty good to me. This tune is a combination of r&b and rap. It starts with the well known EW&F lyric (hard to describe) that is often used. The song drives on the low beat, with snare. The melody is done by the vocals of Kayte.

Lorraine Reid's 'All Lies' also a beat driven song, urban style. Pretty good soul vocals, a la Mary J Blige, and a chorus that keeps in your head. One of my favourite tracks.

'So Glad' by Wade O'Brown is a superb urban song due to the outstanding vocals by Wade. If I want to compare his vocals with an other artist then it should probarly be Luther Vandross. He has almost the timbre of the king of soul.

Yeh, finally a real picking bass in a new urban track by Michelle Tavares, who is influenced by Teena Marie. Nice vocals, bass, synths and break. This track is mixed with the fantastic funky interlude full of bass licks. A shame it last only 1,5 minute. Michelle Surprised me on the next track 'I Need Your Lovin' a cover of Teena Marie's track of 1980. Michelle couldn't do it better, no further comments.

The Jazzy 'Deception' by Alana Bridgewater is a very smooth jazzy tune. Nice vocal arrangements, synths, influenced by 'Curtis Mayfield.

Kate Bowen's urban flavoured song 'Been So Long' is prefectly sang by Kate. The music and her vocals in combination with the background vocals are nice to hear.

I've already reviewed The next track on an other compilation CD. It's the song 'Happy' by 'Blue eye' vocalist Kayte Burgess. She wrote the song 'Happy'. It's a smooth produced song with very nice vocals of Kayte.

The last song is by Ian Martin who has performed with the top artists around the world on route to his own achievements. From En Vogue to Maxwell, Ronny Jordan. This version is the remix of 'Movin' On'. Very nice vocals on a pumpin' beat that reminds me to the 'Dance Electric' by André Cymone of 1985.

This compilation has indeed the finest Nu Soul and R'n'B tracks available compiled and arranged by Di-Lee of SoulChoonz Records.
