Today, 25 years ago in 1986, the album Bloodline by Levert debuted on the billboard Top R&B Albums Chart. It reached #8 and was on the chart for a total of 36 weeks.
Taking a famous soul surname for a band tag isn't a bad idea when you put out stuff that certainly complements classily the originator's style.
Taking dad, Eddie Levert's O'Jay lead and hitting the harmony trail, young Levert and colleagues get all smooth over some ballads like "(Pop Pop Pop) Goes My Mind", "Kiss And Make Up" and "Start Me Up, Turn You On", and then a touch groovier on "Let's Go Out Tonight" and "Fascination".
There is even a fair crack at a P-Funker in the shape of "Grip" so, all in all, not a bad way of moving the Levert name into the eighties.
