Bio



Tom brown is born in queens New York. At younger age he played the piano. His jazz collection inspired him to play the trumpet. Later he played on gigs with Weldon Irvine and Lonnie Liston Smith. In 1979 he recorded his solo album on the GRP label.

Brown liked to work for the GRP label because he could go to the studio and have trial-and-error sessions when he like. It was a relaxed environment at GRP with owners Dave Crusin and Larry Rosen.

His second album Love Approach with the Billboard number one hit 'Funkin' for Jamaica' was also recorded on the GRP label.

For GRP he recorded two more albums in 1981 'Yours Truly' and 'Magic'. In 1983 he switched to Arista and recorded Rockin' Radio. One year later the album Tommy Gun was released with producer Maurice Starr.

In 1984 he also recorded the album Ice for the group Fuse One. He blown his horn on the track Goree Island from Roy Ayers his album 'in the dark'
