Lew Kirton is From Barbados and was initially known as Jigs Kirton and acquired his vocal training in a local Anglican choir.

In 1969 he was as drummer with the Sam & Dave revue, then in 1972 he loined the line-up of The Invitations. The group had a hit with They Say The Girl's Crazy' for Silver Blue Records.

In 1977 he recorded an album for TK, Just Arrived from which 'Do What You Want' was his debut single, while Heaven In The Afternoon' became an in-demand album track in the UK.

While at TK he also recorded 'It's Where You're Coming From' as featured lead vocalist with ]azz ensemble B. Baker's Chocolate Company.

In 1983. after having moved to Brooklyn. New York, he recorded one album Talk To Me for Believe In A Dream Records (via CBS]. The title track was released as a single and remains a popular song on the soul scene, still now. His next and last release was 'Don't Wanna Wait' in 1986, issued at first on a small American label Tweedside, but later made available in the UK by MCA.

In 2004 Lew recorded a new album on Dac-bag productions.

Lew Kirton wrote some songs that have been recorded by Tyrone Brunson and Melba Moore.
