James is born in Brookly New York. He was singing by the age of three.

James Williams got the nickname "D-Train" as a high school football star, with his defensive tackle tactics, in Brooklyn. At school He teamed with bass/keyboardist Hubert Eaves, III from 1981 to 1985 as D-Train.

In 1986 he signed to CBS as James (D-Train) Williams and recorded his Miracles of the Heart Album and In your eyes. He had one Top 10 and one Top 20 R&B single from 1986 to 1988 on Columbia, with "Misunderstanding" peaking at #10 Add/Complete Bio
