Bio

Drew Schultz broke into the scene at the age of 19 working for The Four Tops.
Over a five-year period, Drew served as Drummer, Percussionist, Archivist, and
Substitute Conductor for the legendary Motown group. With original Earth Wind & Fire
drummer Ralph Johnson and Funk Brother Uriel Jones as a mentors, Drew was destined
to immerse himself in as much soul music as he could. Touring the world with The Four
Tops, he performed with countless amazing artists who he looked up to, including The
Temptations, Aretha Franklin, The Dramatics, The Contours, The Miracles, Chairmen of
the Board, Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes, The Velvelettes, and many more. He also wrote
several articles published in Modern Drummer magazine, interviewing and analyzing the
musicians that made the music he loved. His debut record, “Back to Class,” is a benefit
project for the music programs of the Detroit Public Schools that celebrates classic soul
music and musicians, and marks his own academic return to New York University’s jazz
performance program. The record is made up of 16 songs that Drew wrote, arranged,
produced, and performed, with special guests:
