Stacy Lattisaw Is A Fine Singer, But As With Any Vocalist, You Have To Provide Good Material If You Expect Them To Shine. "Im Not The Same Girl" Is An Example Of How Even A Gifted Vocalist Like Lattisaw Can Come Up Short When Given Uninspired, Lack-luster Material. The Album Is Full Of Forgettable Tunes That Come Off As Maudlin And Corny. Stacy Tries Her Best To Sound Enthused On "Can't Stop Thinking About You", And The Title Track "I'm Not The Same Girl", But It's Clear That During The Mid-80's When These Songs Were Released And Synth/funk Was The Norm, That Radio Wasn't Going Near These Tracks. Even Lattisaw Is Quoted Refering To The Songs As "Michael Masser Throw Aways" And "Whitney Houston Rejects". The One And Only Bright Moment On The Album Is Stacy's Remake Of "I Though It Took A Little Time". A Song Originally Recorded By Diana Ross, And Stacy Infuses Her Version With A Youthful Innocence That's Highly Effective. This Was Also Stacy Lattisaw's Last Album On The Cotillion Label Before She Moved Over To Motown Records, Where She Experienced A Successful Run. I Would Look For Stacy's Version Of "I Thought It Took A Little Time" On A Compilation Cd, Because It Is Worth A Listen. Outside Of That "Im Not The Same Girl" Is Only Recommended To The Serious Stacy Lattisaw Fan.
