Gladys Knight is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and author, who was born on May 28, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia. She is best known for her soulful voice and her contributions to the music industry as a member of Gladys Knight & the Pips. Throughout her career, Knight has won several awards, including seven Grammy Awards, and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Knight began singing at a young age and formed her first group, The Pips, with her brother Merald and cousins William Guest and Edward Patten when she was just eight years old. The group began performing together in church and eventually gained popularity in the Atlanta area. They signed with the legendary Motown Records in 1966, and their first hit single, "Every Beat of My Heart," quickly climbed the charts.

In the years that followed, Gladys Knight & the Pips became one of the most successful groups in the music industry, releasing hit after hit.
