Soul And Funk Music Album Reviews

Karyn White - Carpe Diem After 18 years Karyn White returns on the scene with a new album called 'Carpe Diem' on KWEntertainment Records. It contains 11 tracks varied from dance to pop.
VenuConnection Madrid Boogie I don't know exactly how to describe the style of the CD Madrid Boogie of Venueconnection. It's a mix of pop, latin, jazzy, funky, soul music. One thing is sure, they use real analog instruments like organs, guitars, bass, drums and piano. Madrid Boogie, a 16 track album, is a mixture of uptempo, downtempo songs with vocals as well instrumentals. A CD for the summer evenings with a nice cup of tea, coffee or beer and a good conversation. This album is avaiable on soulchoonz.com

Kool & The Gang - Everbody's Dancin' Vinyl Masterpiece, a Dutch reissuer of great funk albums, has just reissued two fantastic albums by Kool and The Gang. One of the two is the album 'Everbody's Dancin'' from 1978 original pressed on DE-LITE Records.

This and the other reissue album 'The Force' are recorded for the period that Kool and the Gang hit the charts with 'Celebrations', 'Ladies Night', 'Too Hot' and a few years later with 'Cherish' and 'Fresh'.

This album is pure funk and nothing else but the funk. The 8 minute title track 'Everybody's Dancin'' fooles you in the first 45 seconds. Watch my words. Get your 'Dancin Shoes' just like 'Big Chief Funkum' are both funk tracks of the first kind with lots of bass, brass, synth sounds. Track #4 'I Like Music' looks like a precessor for the coming period. Midtempo, less funk. The same is true for 'At The Party'. Nice tracks though. The smooth downtempo track 'Stay Awhile' sounds very fresh with nice guitar, and violin work. Great vocals. 'It's All You Need' is superb. Another great reissue on CD. Check the samples. You won't be disappointed. Sound samples and CD available at vinyl Masterpiece
Groove Stu - Artofficial Substance Omar Sharif of the American band 'Groove Stu' send me their album for a review which I received just before my holiday. Normally my approach is to skip the tracks on a CD to get a first Impression. But this time I used a different approach. I listened to the CD when cruising to Austria for my yearly holiday with my family. This album made me very relaxed, even for my kids;-) The miles/km flew by. It was apparently a good idea to do it this way.

The journey starts with the first great track on this album 'Thing Called Love' a song with beautiful vocal harmonies. Next track 'Take A Chance' has the same ingredients as the previous track, nice guitar licks and vocals. The Featherstones produced track #3 'Make Believe'. The string arrangements on this track are smooth, the same is true for their other slow production 'Where I Wanna Be' (one of my favorites).

2010 from the acclaimed guitarist and vocalist. So Strong is simply put- so strong! The first single (and title track) already made an impact at Urban Adult Contemporary and is a marvelous, hip slice of his powerful vocals over an infectious, driving rhythm. Smooth Jazz radio gets a taste too with the Benson-esque "Make Room for Me" and the inspirational "You Got to Believe Something" is a musical credo that won't let you down. So Strong- we hope you will agree- isn't just worth the wait, it's worth the weight in soul. "So Strong" is the 16th album by the famed South African-born singer/guitarist/songwriter/producer, whose music is often classified as R&B, jazz fusion or smooth jazz. Fans of Jonathan Butler will not be disappointed with the combination of smooth guitar led instrumentals like "Good Times" and "Make Room For Me", which has already reached # 20 on the Billboard Jazz Songs Chart. "I Pay Respect" is the most gentle of acoustic guitar instrumentals. The lilting "Color Green" and the upbeat "So Strong" are the pick of the vocal tracks, while "You Got To Believe In Something" has a languid fell to it.
Ferry Ultra And The Homeless Funkers - Ferry Ultra And The Homeless Funkers Ferry Ultra and the homeless Funkers is an album like Cool Million. He colloborate with some old school funkers like Gwen Mccrae, Roy Ayers and Kurtis Blow. The album consist of some covers but also new stuff. Great album. Check the track 'I Owe My Love To You'.
b_275_275_16777215_00__frontcover_releases_43996893_charlie_wilson-just_charlie.jpg 2010 release from the Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter. As one of the most distinguished voices in R&B music, Charlie Wilson needs no introduction. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native and former lead singer of the funkadelic brotherly trio, the Gap Band has proven with his last two solo albums that he is more than relevant, he is a hit maker.
