Steve Arrington - Way Out (80-84) July 22, 2014 – New York, NY - Steve Arrington, 1980s hit maker and former front man of funk legends Slave, is back after a 20+ year hiatus from the music business. On September 29, 2014, Steve will release his new album Way Out (80-84), an album c omposed of unreleased material, re-mastered classics and much more via Tummy Touch Records.

Way Out (80-84) is a retrospective encompassing all of Arrington’s classics—his first solo single, the Slave backed “Summertime Lovin’” / “Special Effects from Mars” and much sampled hits like “Way Out" and “Weak at the Knees” from his early solo albums that have been sampled by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey and Pitbull. In addition, the albumwill include unreleased songs deemed too progressive by Atlantic Records at the time and five previously unfinished tracks featuring the classic Hall of Fame line up with brand new vocals and finishing touches from Arrington’s current band.

To coincide with the announcement, today Steve Arrington released the first official track off the album called “Without Your Love” on Okayplayer.com .

“At 58, to look back on where I was at 24 or 25 years old, and add where I’m coming from now in finishing those tracks, it was like visiting my younger self,” Arrington says. “To that young cat, it’s like telling him, ‘I’m digging your uniqueness then,’ and to where I am now, telling the older Steve Arrington, ‘Hey man, you’re still doing your thing.’”

Last year, Arrington released collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Dam Funk that garnered high regards from Pitchfork to XLR8R who proclaimed “Arrington’s voice sounds as smooth as ever…jump-starting the next phase of his musical career.” In addition, the Washington Post said that Steve’s new music is “The funkiest cut of German Chocolate Cake, Miles Davis, little league baseball and true love you may ever hear.” Arrington is set for several upcoming show dates in Chicago, Boston, New York City and Toronto during the month of August.
