It was down right criminal that this release by Teena Marie was all but completely overlooked by the general public when originally released. With an interesting lyrical concept, top-notch musicianship,and an adroit production turn by Marie, "Emerald City" stands as Teena Marie's most ambitious and eclectic work to date. Stand out tracks; "Emerald City", "You So Heavy", "Shangri-la" and "Batucada Suite". Honestly, "Emerald City" is an album that is best appreciated played in it's entirety. It is worth a listen to any musician/songwriter interested in how to successfully blend musical styles and a must have for any Teena Marie fan.
